India is ready to export its locally made Pinaka rocket launcher to Armenia.

According to Solar Industries, the company that manufactures the weapon system, Armenia has placed an export order to be completed within two years and Nigeria and Indonesia are in the process of making a purchase.

“Upgraded Pinaka rocket launchers have a longer lifespan and range, although the price is almost the same. We have received an export order from Armenia, which is to be completed within two years. Nigeria and Indonesia have also expressed interest,” said Solar Industries Chairman Satyanarayan Nuwal.

Nuwal was speaking at DefExpo 2022, India’s biggest defense expo ever, where the weapon is on display.

Let’s take a closer look at the Pinaka rocket launcher:

The rocket launcher takes its name from the legendary bow of Shiva.

According Financial Expressit was developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) based on an 8×8 vehicle.

The Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune also contributed to its development, in accordance with India today.

It is a complete system that incorporates high-energy propulsion, submunition warheads, a servo launcher structure as well as a fire control computer, according to the newspaper.

The system is mounted on a Tatra truck for mobility, according to Eurasian time.

It was first used during the Kargil War where it succeeded in neutralizing Pakistani army positions on top of the mountains.

He was also more recently deployed on India’s border with China amid tensions in Ladakh.

The First Indian Army Pinaka Mk1 Regiment was raised in February 2000 as per Eurasian time.

According Kashmir Observer, the rocket launcher can fire 12 HE rockets in 44 seconds.

According India todayit delivers lethal and reactive fire against a variety of area targets such as exposed enemy troops, armored and soft-skinned vehicles, communications centers, air terminal complexes, fuel and ammunition dumps.

It allows ground forces a deep strike option and is capable of striking critical military installations.

According Armenian weekly, the Pinaka has six launchers capable of neutralizing an area of 1000 meters x 800 meters with a range of 60 to 75 kilometers, and a DIGICORA MET radar.

It is designed to replace the Russian-made BM-21 Grad launchers in the Armenian Army.

He has since been inducted in large numbers into the Indian Army, which is fielding 10 Pinaka Mk-1 regiments, according to Eurasian time.

The improved version of the Pinaka rocket launcher is said to have a range of over 90 kilometers.

The Economic period last week, the Ministry of Defense authorized the export of arms through a government-to-government channel, under which the two countries signed agreements to deliver arms and ammunition to Armenia.

Although the value of the deal was not disclosed, the report claimed that armaments worth $250 million would be sold “over the next few months”.

“This order includes an additional six initial exports of the Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers. This weapon, which is already in service with the Indian Army, was designed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and manufactured by private sector companies in the country,” sources told the newspaper.

What the experts say

The experts said Eurasian time that the contract is probably for the Pinaka Mk-1 MBRLS rather than the Pinaka Mk-2 or the Pinaka Mk-2 EPRS.

Longer-range Pinaka-2 systems, with optional guided rockets (INS/GPS), have completed user trials, but are not yet in production.

The Defense Ministry said in December that a series of successful tests of the Pinaka Enhanced Range Rocket Launcher System had been conducted at the Pokhran firing range.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Defense said: “The DRDO, together with the military, conducted a series of benchmark tests. In these trials, range-enhanced Pinaka rockets were tested at different ranges with various warhead capacities. All trial objectives were satisfactorily achieved. 24 rockets were fired for different ranges and warhead capacities to achieve the accuracy and consistency goals.

The production capacity of the Pinaka Mk-1 rocket launcher is more than 5,000 per year, according to the report.

India’s geopolitical game?

India’s move comes as Armenia is embroiled in a dispute with Azerbaijan (backed by Turkey, which recently towed Pakistan’s line over Kashmir).

According Kashmir Observer, Earlier in October, India called on the “aggressor side” in the fighting along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border to “immediately cease hostilities”, a dig in Azerbaijan it did not name.

According Financial Express, the Pinaka MBRL would be extremely effective in any border conflict while targeting armored formations

But experts say the Pinaka rocket launcher alone may not be enough to tip the scales decisively in Armenia’s favor.

As Major General Raj Mehta (Retired) said Eurasian time“What we export will not be enough. More importantly, Pinakas and Tank Missiles are not drone compatible and are also expensive.

“In times of war, hammers are not the right solution to kill flies. A threat assessment must be carried out, after which the right weapons can be chosen. A “transparent” battlefield allows you to make wise choices. An Indian assessment team could identify the real battlefield problems and then suggest what India could provide at a reasonable cost.

“Aiming for exports of 35,000 cr by 2025”

India has recorded defense exports worth Rs 8,000 crore in the six months of the current financial year and aims to meet the target of outbound shipments of Rs 35,000 crore by 2025, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said Monday.
