‘Pretty Spectacular,’ Extreme Team to Update Fairchild Air Force Base Baseball Field
FAIRCHILD AFB, Wash. — Tomorrow, Mark Peterson and the Extreme Team will update the Fairchild Air Force Base baseball field.
Currently, T-ball and baseball teams travel to Cheney or Medical Lake to use their fields for games and practices.
“They’re trying to fit as many teams into the Medical Lake field, the Cheney High School field. There are not enough slots, and therefore our matches are running quite late,” said Kirstina Flower, a volunteer coach and resident of Fairchild AFB. “It would be pretty nice if our kids didn’t have to go out until 8 at night to play, because there just isn’t enough space for them.”
The land is overgrown and currently unusable.
“Well, you know, COVID has been tough on people and so our efforts have been to get people out of dorms, out of houses,” Col Cassius Bentley said. “On great days like this, have a park where they can go and relax.”
They will restore the land to a playable shape, sand and stain the canoe benches, sand and repaint the picnic tables, and add new engineered bark for the play structure in the park.
“I’m super excited. I grew up on a diamond, and knowing that my child will have access to a diamond here that’s open full time, 24/7, to young people and other ages is pretty spectacular. “said Flower.
