Leo Camacho leads Falcons to WAC Main Event

SEATTLE, Wash. – Second year of the Air Force Leo Camacho and freshman Andre Lu the two picked up 125-pound victories on Friday, Feb. 4 at the opening night of the prestigious WAC Main Event in Seattle. Following his win, Camacho was named the best boxer for the event’s first night of action.

Camacho earned his 125-pound victory after stopping USC’s Ian Chiu in the second round, while Lu followed that up with a 2-1 decision over Californian Ryan Everly.

Seniors Maddie Lloyd and Maksat Omar also competed in the WAC Main Event on Friday, but suffered losses in their respective bouts. Lloyd opened the Falcons’ night with a 142-pound backhand to Washington’s Simona Winkler, while Omar dropped his 138-pound contest to Cincinnati’s John Laughlin.

Lu returned to the Washington Athletic Club ring on Saturday, February 5 for the second Air Force bout of the weekend with Chiu. Like Camacho on Friday, Lu forced the referee to stop the 125-pound fight with Chiu before the final bell as the rookie improved to 2-0 on the weekend.

Senior Michael Scully joined Lu on Saturday night’s card but suffered an early loss in his 156-pound contest with UC Davis’ Michael Pitts.

125 pounds: Andre Lu (Air Force) RSC Ian Chiu (USC)

The Air Force resumes operations on Friday, February 11, when it travels to Reno for the West Coast Showdown.
