TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Before news of the government’s planned fuel price hike was widely disseminated, Coordinating Economy Minister Airlangga Hartarto claimed that petrol prices in the country were relatively cheaper than in some countries in the world. ‘South East Asia.

So the question is: is the statement true? Referring to global gasoline price data as of August 29, 2022, here is the list of average fuel prices in Southeast Asian countries, from most expensive to least expensive:

Singapore

The average price of fuel is 1,960 USD or 29,170 Rp

Laos

The average price of fuel is 1,706 USD or 25,390 Rp

Philippines

The average fuel price is 1,308 USD or 19,466 Rp

Myanmar or Burma

The average fuel price is 1,307 USD or 19,452 Rp

Cambodia

The average fuel price is 1,288 USD or 19,169 Rp

Thailand

The average fuel price is 1,259 USD or 18,737 Rp

Indonesia

The average fuel price is 1,163 USD or 17,308 Rp

Vietnam

The average price of fuel is 1,077 USD or 16,028 Rp

Malaysia

The average price of fuel is 0.457 USD or 6,801 Rp

Singapore remains the country with the highest average fuel price in Southeast Asia. In this way, it can be concluded that only Vietnam and Malaysia have lower average fuel prices than Indonesia.
