Eight films selected by eight cinemas in cities around the world will be screened at an independent cinema in the Silom region from Friday.

Aiming to bring together the diverse film cultures of the world, Doc Club & Pub’s Cinema of Commoning will showcase eight films from every continent over its seven days.

The eight participating cinemas are Sinema Transtopia (Berlin), Cine CCC (Santiago, Chile), Cinema Akil (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Kundura Sinema (Istanbul, Turkey), Cinema Arta (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), Forum Lenteng ( Jakarta), Cinema Geracao (Luanda, Angola) and Doc Club & Pub (Bangkok).

Some of the highlights include The emperor’s naked army advances, chosen by the host of the place himself. The documentary follows a 62-year-old World War II veteran from the Japanese countryside in New Guinea as he searches for those responsible for the unexplained deaths of two soldiers in his former unit.

Remake, Remix, Scam is a documentary about the Turkish fantasy film industry – where filmmakers abandon copyright issues to blatantly create cheap remakes from copied scripts – which boomed in the 1960s and 1970s.

Essay documentary Majub’s Journey tells the story of Mohamed Husen, an African who worked as an extra in the movie industry in Nazi Germany in the 1930s. Whenever a black man was needed on screen, Husen always played the part.
