COLUMBUS, OHIO — Columbus Blue Jackets activated the left wing Jordan schröder reserve and loaned it for conditioning to the Cleveland Monsters, a Columbus branch in the American Hockey League, club general manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. The club also assigned Cleveland right winger Kole Sherwood to the Ontario Hockey League Flint Firebirds.

Schroeder, 27, who missed the first three games of the campaign after suffering an upper-body injury in the preseason, recorded 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points with 10 penalty minutes and a +9 odds in 144 career NHL games with the Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks since his NHL debut in 2012-13. Last season, he scored 6-7-13 and went +5 in 37 games for Minnesota, setting career highs in goals, assists, points and games played. He added 6-12-18 and 12 penalty minutes in 25 AHL games with the Iowa Wild.

The Prior Lake, Minnesota native has amassed 77-118-195 in 292 career AHL games with Iowa, Utica, Chicago and Manitoba. Acquired by Columbus of Minnesota in exchange for center Dante Salituro on June 23, 2017, Schroeder was originally Vancouver’s first-round pick, 22nd overall, in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Sherwood, 20, has spent the last two seasons in the OHL, recording 45-74-119 with 113 penalty minutes and a +22 rating in 123 games with the Flint Firebirds and London Knights. He scored 33-52-85, 60 penalty minutes and was +13 in 60 games for Flint in 2016-17. He made his professional debut with Cleveland at the end of the campaign, skating in two games. The Blue Jackets signed a three-year entry contract with the New Albany, Ohio native on July 7, 2015.

The Blue Jackets return to action on Friday when they host the New York Rangers at Nationwide Arena. Game time is 7 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio will begin with the Blue Jackets pre-game show live starting at 6:30 p.m. The match will also be broadcast live on the Scioto Downs Blue Jackets radio network, including 97.1 The Fan and online at BlueJackets.com.
