Air Force veteran Ronald A. Farrell of Cranston dies at 83

Ronald A. Farrell of Cranston passed away on Wednesday August 25, 2021 at the age of 83 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Providence.

Born October 2, 1937 and raised in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles and Clara (Gavigan) Farrell. He was the father of Kelly Burns, Erin Costa, Heather Farrell and Shannon McLaurin.

After high school, Ron joined the Air Force where he served four years in Dallas, Texas. He was employed by the Narragansett Brewery until they closed in 1982. As a frequent public transport traveler, he enjoyed his favorite pastime to stroll through Newport, Providence, Bristol and Narragansett. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan!

Besides his four children, he is survived by his sister Jean Vient of Warwick and his sister-in-law Verna Farrell of Cranston. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ron was predeceased by his sisters Marjorie C. Johnson of Warwick, Evelyn A. Siczewicz of Sandy Hook, Connecticut; Frances I. Paine of Warwick, and brothers Edward J. Farrell of Newcastle, California; and Leo C. Farrell of Cranston.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the Butterfield Chapel, 500 Pontiac Avenue.

Interment will follow at the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.

Visits will take place one hour before the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ronald’s name at St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
