HOUSTON — The Air Force had a stellar opening day of the 2022 WAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, wrapping up day one with three podium finishes, three Academy records — alongside a WAC record and a freshman league champion diver Alex KenyonWednesday afternoon at the CRWC Natatorium on the University of Houston campus.

The first school record of the evening was set by standout junior Wen Zhang in the free 800 relay. Zhang, who has done more than any AF swimmer this season, swam a top 200 in the program in the 800 freestyle, outscoring all opposing swimmers in the first leg and setting a WAC record in the ‘effort. Teammates Adam Grimm, Grant Afmanand Jacob Bulseco helped the Falcons set their second program record of the night as the team swam to a 6:24.17 finish for a top mark in the Academy 800M free relay books. The quartet finished second in the event.

Before the ink was dry on the first impact of the AF record books, Kenyon, who opened the morning preliminary session with a score of second place (316.55), pushed the pace of the Air Force in the final to win the 3-meter diving title. , getting a better program of 378.60. Kenyon is the second Air Force 3-meter WAC diving champion since Bo Bloomer in 1991.

The Falcons also had a stellar performance in the 200 QN relay with Gabe Bartolomei, Tory Bartlett, André Limpert and Corey Shepard finished third with a 1:27.83 finish in the event.

Falcon Diver Jack Macceca finished with a 285.40 in the consolation final, while his teammate Erik Pfaffenbichler finished with a 232.30

The Falcons continue WAC Championship action Thursday morning at the CRWC Natatorium.
