Air Force opens season with exhibit at CC, October 2

Opening of the season: Air Force opens the 2021-22 season with an exhibition game against Colorado College on Saturday, October 2 at 6 p.m. The match will be the first at CC’s new Robson Arena. Air Force opens the regular season at Michigan State, Oct. 8-9, in East Lansing, Michigan.

Looking back: The Air Force closed the 2020-21 season with an overall record of 3-10-1. The Falcons are 10th in the AHA with a 3-9-1 conference record. The Air Force swept Canisius in the final round of the regular season, but the season ended in a 7-3 loss to Bentley in the AHA first round. Willie Reims, the team’s MVP last season, led the team with six goals and 12 points in 14 games. Reim has scored a point in the last six games (4-5-9), the longest streak of his career and the longest of any Falcon this season.
The Captains: Senior Alex schilling and second Luke Rowe will wear the “C” while the juniors Blake bride and Willie Reims each bear an “A”. The captains were chosen by a team vote.
Schilling is the first goaltender to serve as captain in Serratore’s tenure with the Air Force, which began in 1997. A senior from Medina, Minn., Schilling has played in 42 career games in goal with 38 starts . He is the first goalkeeper to serve as Academy captain since Mark Liebich in 1991-92. He is only the fourth warden in the school’s history to hold the position of captain (Liebich, 1991-92; Mike Drake 1981-82; Kim Newman, 1969-70 and 1970-71). Rowe, a second defenseman from Succasunna, NJ, was named the team’s most improved player in freshman year.
Reim, a junior winger from North Oaks, Minn., Was named the team’s MVP last season. He led the team with six goals and 12 points in 14 games last season.
Bride, a junior winger from Broomfield, Colo., Scored five points (2-3-5) in 14 games last season. He has played 47 career games.
The New Hot Hockey Bed – Colorado? : Air Force has eight players from Colorado state with one from Steamboat Springs (Coon), three from Colorado Springs (Balboa, Lester, Pochipinski) and four from the Denver area (Bride-Broomfield, Marti-Highlands Ranch, Park- Highlands Ranch, Schwartz-Parker). The state of Minnesota, which usually tops the Air Force roster, has just one more player than Colorado’s. Colorado College has the second most Coloradoans on the list with five.
