337 more coronavirus infections reported in Tokyo on June 15

TOKYO – The Tokyo Metropolitan Government reported 337 more coronavirus infections on June 15.

The new cases came after the Japanese capital recorded 209 infections on June 14. Tokyo remains under a prolonged state of emergency due to the spread of the virus.

In the first week of June, Tokyo recorded an average of 422.9 new infections per day, down from the daily average of 705.8 in May, before that figure fell to 380.4 during the second week of June. It recorded a monthly high of 39,664 new cases of the virus in January – an average of 1,279.5 infections per day, and the highest monthly total since the start of the pandemic in the spring of 2020.

As of June 14, a total of 2,159 people had died from COVID-19 in Tokyo.

To date, Tokyo has registered 166,915 infections, the highest number of Japan’s 47 prefectures. As of June 14, there were 1,436 coronavirus patients in hospital, 46 with severe symptoms.
